Is an All-Inclusive Resort Right for You?
Beaches, pools, activities, multiple dining options, and unlimited beverages included all in one prices sounds like a relaxing vacation to me. How do you know if an all-inclusive resort is right for you and your family? Let’s discuss what types of experience you can have at an all-inclusive resort.
What is an All-Inclusive Resort?
All-inclusive means that most everything is included with one set price. This means that once you book and pay for your trip you won’t have to spend additional money on things along the way. All-inclusive resorts generally include your accommodations, meals, beverages (alcoholic too) and tips.
Where are these all-inclusive resorts located?
All-inclusive resorts are usually found in tropical and beach destinations. There are so many options in Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and a handful in the Bahamas. Some of the other Caribbean Islands have all-inclusive resorts as well, but we encourage opting to venture off the resort on these islands to experience the food and sights of the islands.
How do you find the right resort that fits your travel needs?
Not every resort is the same. The first question we always ask is who will be traveling with you. Some resorts cater to families, couples, and singles. While others are perfect for couples only and don’t allow children. Some resorts are meant for couples and singles to enjoy a party atmosphere.
We also always ask our clients what their priorities are when they travel to a tropical destination. Everyone has different needs, so once we know what is import to our clients we can move forward finding the perfect resort.
Beach- Not all resorts are beachfront. Not all resorts have swimmable beaches. I’m talking to you Los Cabo. If this is a top priority we will want to make sure you have a pristine beach with lots of seating options and maybe even waiter service.
Pools- If you are like Anne you enjoy the beach, but you prefer to be poolside. She loves to find a chair or cabana for the day and have everything she needs within close proximity. Most resorts have pool waiters, nearby food, and activities. She also likes to make sure there is at least one swim up bar to make the pool experience all the more enjoyable. If you are traveling with children, this may mean you need waterslides.
Bars/Drinks- It is always nice to have multiple options when it comes to bars and drinks. Having different options to relax at during the day or night is a plus. Helpful hint, the lobby bar usually has the best or strongest drinks.
Delicious Food- This one is important to a ton of our clients. Generally most resorts will have at least one buffett option open most of the day. But some of the best resorts have multiple a la carte dining options. If you are going to be at a resort for more than 3 nights, we recommend staying at a resort that will give you a variety of food. No one wants to eat at the same restaurant night after night.
Entertainment/Activities- Are you a party till the wee hours in the morning or bed by 9pm? Do you want to venture off property and see the history and culture of the city nearby? Do you need a kids club so that mom and dad can enjoy some alone time? Do you need to have a quiet pool area or do you need a dj pool side? Do you need access to water sports either motorized or non motorized?
Spa- Generally spa services are an added amenity that you will pay by service or use resort credits for services. Some resorts specialize in their amazing spa service and wellness. There are also a few resorts that include spa services as part of the all-inclusive package.
Romance- If you are looking for a little romance a family resort is probably not the best place for you. However, there are plenty of family resorts that have an adults only section of the resort. This is a great way to experience a romantic vibe without breaking the bank.
What's not included with all-inclusive?
Do you need to spend any extra money while staying at an all-inclusive resort? Not at all. We do recommend tipping small bills when you have great service throughout your stay. There are premium services that can be added to any stay. As mentioned above, the spa services are generally not included. Some resorts may have a few specialty restaurants that are available for an additional per person fee. Excursions off property will also cost your an additional fee.
And then there is also the option of adding preferred or diamond status to your stay. This could be better located accommodations. Access to speedy check in/out, lounge access, exclusive dining, private pools or beach access, top shelf liquor in room, spa services, and possibly a butler. Only you can decide if these preferred or diamond status upgrades are worth the price.
Is an all-inclusive right for you?
If you don’t want to worry about paying additional expenses when you arrive at your destination, you might be interested in an all inclusive resort. Plus who doesn’t love the idea that all the drinks you want are included. If you are wanting to explore the local city and culture rather than stay at the resort all day, an all-inclusive might not be right for you. We have other options for that traveler. If you are staying at an all-inclusive resort you probably want to stay on property (aside from a few day trips) to get your money’s worth.
