Adults Only All-Inclusive Options- Cancun/Riviera Maya
Last week we headed to Mexico to learn a little about how travel is being treated and to visit a few of our most popular all-inclusive resorts. While we can’t visit every resort we send clients to, we sure like to try. One of the focuses of this trip was adults only resorts. There are so many in the Caribbean we are only going to discuss some of the highlights of the ones we visited last week.
Secrets Maroma Beach
This resort was my favorite of the trip. it had it all: romance, relaxing, entertainment, and just beautiful. The Beach is out of this world gorgeous. I am a bit of a water snob. After seeing the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans, this part of the Gulf of Mexico/Caribbean Sea is beyond beautiful. I compare the color of the water to the Indian Ocean (my favorite ocean).
Beach: This is a highlight at this resort. If a beach is your top priority than this is a perfect option. Maroma Beach is beautiful with white sands and clear blue water.
Activities and Food: This property has two swimming pools and two outdoor whirlpools. One pool has a swim up bar. In addition to the swim up bar is six other bars to hang out in. Pro tip- the lobby bar usually makes the best drinks. There are seven ala carte restaurants plus buffet, cafe, and 24 hour room service.
Romance: Secrets Resorts are known for their intimate areas where couples can be alone to reconnect. There are plenty of hidden public areas where you can relax on a daybed on the beach or a seat swing or schedule a couples massage. Secrets Maroma has a indoor and outdoor couples massage area. The outdoor area includes a mexican shower. Don’t forget the hydrotherapy circuit with unlimited use if you book a preferred room.
Rooms: Rooms have a king bed and come with either a private balcony or terrace. Upgrade to a swimout suit for even more luxury.
El Dorado Casitas Royale
This property is a mix of three in one. There is family friendly Generations, Royale for couples and singles and Casitas Royale for couples. Our site inspection was focused on Casitas Royale, but this would be a great property for multi-generational families and groups that have different needs and can stay at all three properties.
Beach: The beach here is pretty standard with the exception that it has quite a few cement blocks obstructing your view. If a beach is your top priority, this might not be the place for you.
Romance: This property had its fair share of private areas. From smaller intimate pools, private dinner nests, and beach cabana rentals. There is plenty of places to get away. Not to mention the Casitas rooms. They were made for romance.
Activities and Food: One of the coolest features at this resort was the Fuentes Culinary Theater. This Iron Chef type of experience does come with a small extra fee, but worth it for the experiences. Chefs present a cooking demonstration while you enjoy the dishes with wine pairing. This property also features 13 restaurants with 24 hour room service, 18 bars, 14 pools and 2 spas. Guests of Casitas Royale has access to all three properties for even more options. .
Rooms: The rooms are called casitas because of their small bungalow feel. The thatched roofs, tall ceilings, outdoor shower, and private jacuzzi bring the romantic feel. Upgrade to a private infinity pool for even more privacy and romance.
Hyatt Zilara
I loved this resort at first sight. It has a more intimate feel as it is a smaller property in the hotel zone. It has less of a resort feel and more of a hotel feel. With only a little over 300 rooms this makes a great property for those that don’t want to stay at a large resort. The best part is the beautiful beach steps from your room. Also, being in the hotel zones offers your the opportunity to explore shopping, dining, and activities outside the resort.
Beach: The beachfront may be smaller than some of the resorts in the Riviera Maya, they are twice as beautiful. Book a premium suite and your room comes with a beachfront cabana assigned to your for your entire stay.
Activities and Food: We didn’t get to enjoy a meal here but we were treated to a stop at their cafe. Chocolate shots and handmade artisan chocolates. If this is any indication how the rest of the food is prepared, I give it 5 stars. They have six speciality restaurants each offering a different cuisine
Along with pool parties, tequila tastings, beach volleyball, and bike rentals they have an ocean view spa. The spa features a Temazcal stone sauna, hydrotherapy circuit, and beauty salon. One of the unique experiences you can have at the spa is make your own body scrub. You will be lead by a body scrub aromatherapist/mixologist to help create the perfect body scrub to use at the spa or for you to bring home.
Rooms: The rooms all have breathtaking views and are spacious. Treat yourself to a luxury swim up suite. Some of the rooms even have telescopes for stargazing.
Breathless Riviera Cancun
This isn’t your standard adults only resort. While the focus as many adults only resorts is romance and relaxing this one is all about socializing. They have 3 distinct areas: Xhale- quiet , Allure- social, Xcellerate- party. While I enjoy the social side, I would want to stay in the Xhale area to have a quiet place to escape the day.
Social: If you are looking to make new friends and enjoy the party, this is probably the resort for you. It is great for couples and singles. A great place to have a Bachelor/Bachelorette party weekend. Here you can see the three types of pools from Xhale to Allure to Xcellerate.
Beach: The beach here is pretty standard. The sand is a beautiful white sand but the water isn’t as clear as some of the other beaches further south or in the hotel zone. In the summer months seaweed can cause issues, but the resorts do their best to keep it maintained.
Activities and Food: We were treated to lunch during our site inspection. We enjoyed our buffet lunch at Spoon. There is even a fresh sushi bar to get rolls and nigiri. They also have six ala carte restaurants plus 24 hours room service. You can even reserve the wine cellar for your group for a private dinner. Activities are endless here as the party can go on all night. Live Djs. Pool parties. Live shows. Dancing. Champagne parties. There is always something going on.
Rooms: The resort has been open since 2016 and the rooms are still modern and updated. There are options to upgrade from tropical views to ocean view/front or even swimout suites.
