Things You Should Do Before You Leave For a Trip
The days leading up to a trip can be both exciting and hectic. Here are a few things you can do to help lessen the stress before, during, and after your trip.
Clean out your wallet.
You probably won’t need your Costco membership card or your nail salons loyalty rewards card while you are in Europe. Just carry the important items; ID, insurance cards, credit card/debit card, and some cash.
Clean the house
No one wants to come home after a trip to a messy house. Wash the dishes before heading to bed the night before your flight. Wash your sheets and make your bed. Sweep. Clean off counters and put things back in their place.
Eat or give away perishable foods and take out the garbage
Everyone has come home to the smell of trash or rotten fruit/veggies at least once after a trip. I like to cook an “everything but the…” meal before I leave for a trip. I use up leftovers and remaining veggies in the house to clean out the fridge. Everything else goes in the trash and gets taken out before I head out on my trip.
Reconfirm reservations
Your flight lands and you arrive at your hotel only to find that they lost your reservations. No one wants that added stress. If you booked your trip with Visas and Vistas Travel we take care of this one for you by reconfirming flights, hotels, tours, and transfers. We always contact the resort/hotels to reconfirm and let them know we have a special client visiting. We also use this time to let them know of any special celebrations and request upgrades.
Leave a copy of travel documents with a family member
Always let someone know your travel details. I also like to give them a copy of my passport if I am traveling overseas. If there is an emergency at home it is much easier to get a hold of you if someone has your hotel phone number. This also comes in handy should something happen to you while traveling and you need assistance from home.
Stop your mail or have a friend pick it up
Depending on how long you will be gone, consider having your mail stopped or have someone pick it up for you. Excess mail in mail is a sign to home invaders that you are out of town. Plus, let’s keep the mailman from jamming too much mail in the mailbox.
