Rick's Cafe - Negril, Jamaica
While staying at Couples Negril, I took an afternoon trip to world famous Rick’s Cafe for lunch and to watch the cliff jumpers. I was pretty sure that I had no intentions of jumping off any cliffs while I was there, so I was thankful that one of my new travel friends was fearless and willing to take the gopro with him when he jumped from the cliffs.
Rick’s Cafe has been voted one of the "10 best bars in the World." It is one of the most iconic landmarks in all of Jamaica, drawing millions of visitors from around the world. Located on the beautiful cliffs in Negril Jamaica, Rick's Cafe's world-famous sunsets and breathtaking views have made it an international must-see since 1974. It is been said that it was one of the first bar establishments in Negril.
We arrived around 2pm, just after a rain storm had passed through, and had the place pretty much to ourselves. Peak time is about 4pm when most arrive to grab a few drinks, watch the sunset, and dance with the band/dj. We quickly found a table and ordered some lunch. The food was pretty good, but note that the prices are higher as it is a must see tourist stop.
After a little liquid courage, my new friend was ready to jump off a few cliffs. He started with a moderate jump then ended with this second highest cliff jump. The highest is not actually a cliff but more of a pole that has been rigged up to jump from. This one is not for the faint of heart.
You can ease yourself into the jumps by starting on some of the lower heights. You can see there are a few smaller jump off points before moving up to the more moderate cliffs.
Here is my new friends first jump from my angle above him.
For his highest jump, he took the gopro with him. Here is what he saw as he went down.
This is definitely a top spot in Negril. It is worth the short drive if you are staying in Negril. It is a fun atmosphere and I had a ton of laughs and excitement.
