Hi, I’m Anne.

Australia - Great Barrier Reef

Australia - Great Barrier Reef

Next we headed way north to Cairns (the R is silent in Australia) for New World Wonder #3, the Great Barrier Reef. I was by far the most excited for this stop in Australia. I was also super worried about the snorkeling part. While I have been snorkeling before, I have never had to deal with stinger jellyfish that are almost invisible. Thankfully we found a tour company that covered you head to toe in a stinger suit.

We booked an all day tour to the Outer Reef with Silverswift. The outer reef is one of the best area to snorkel. There are a few islands that are overpopulated with visitors and don't really give you the real reef experience. This was not the case at the outer reef. Most spots we were the only boat there.

One of my favorite moments was this fish attack!! As I was swimming back to the boat on my final snorkel in the Great Barrier Reef, one of the shipmates threw a handful of food in front of me causing this schools of fish to swarm me for a pretty cool picture.

I’m pretty sure Tim’s favorite thing was chase fish with the Go Pro! He disappeared a few times on me trying to keep up wiht a fish.

We also spent some times at a wildlife sanctuary. We ended up having so much fun feeding the kangaroos we didn't explore the rest of the sanctuary before it was time for a tour to move on. This momma with a joey was adorable.

I had such a great time in Australia with the Great Barrier Reef being my favorite stop! It is sad to see the colors of the coral fading. It seemed like there was more white coral than colored. See it before it all disappears.
