Vacations to Take Close to Home
It has been a crazy year already and promises to continue. As we move forward, summer and fall travel is going to look a bit different than what some of us had planned. For those of you that need to reschedule your upcoming travel, here are some of my favorite close to home trips:
National Parks
G Adventures Western Express Southbound- Year Round Travel (one night camping in Yosemite during the summer) From Joshua trees and the Grand Canyon to roadside burger joints and the cosmopolitan streets of San Francisco, this region is loaded with the intriguing and the incredible. Best of all, the San Francisco to Los Angeles itinerary is structured so that those short on time can experience the region's best. At any of the sights you’ll get great pictures and a greater appreciation of what you’re seeing. Best of all, national park entrances fees are included, so you can explore Yosemite and still try your luck in Las Vegas.
G Adventures- Canadian Rockies Express- June- September 2020 Travel Marvel at the natural wonders of the Canadian Rockies on this eight-day tour filled with postcard-perfect landscapes. See the pristine waters of Lake Louise and embark on gondola rides up mountains in Banff and Whistler, where you might spot wildlife along the way. There's a stop for local wine tastings and a visit to a cultural centre, ensuring your time in western Canada checks all the boxes for a well-rounded experience.
Alaska
G Adventures Alaska Kenai & Denali Adventure- June- September 2020 Travel For travellers looking to explore a more remote corner of North America at a faster (and more active) pace, this eight-day journey through Alaska's vast vistas is just the ticket. Catch the state's greatest highlights including the imposing Harding Icefield, the enchanting Kenai Fjords, the jaw-dropping Denali National Park, and the charming town of Talkeetna. Go north and treat yourself to a week of scenery and smiles.
Uncruise Glacier Bay National Park Adventure Cruise- June- September 2020 Travel With over 20 years of exploring Alaska, nobody knows it better. Our captains and crew navigate its waterways and inlets as easily as walking the halls of their own vessel—and are always on the lookout. Spot a bear foraging for salmon on the shore and the captain swings back around so you can get a better look. There’s nowhere better to be than right here.
Central America
National Geographic Family Journeys- Rainforest to Coast - July and August 2020 Travel Blanketed in pristine rainforest, lined by golden sands, and brimming with curious-looking creatures, Costa Rica is the ultimate family playground. Explore inland jungles and volcanic wonders in every way possible: soaring on a zip line, riding on horseback, and hiking misty trails. Then head for the Gold Coast on the Pacific Ocean for some sun, surf, and adventures out at sea.
G Advenures Mayan Highlights- Year Round Travel If you’re short on time but want to delve into the Yucatán, this wide-ranging itinerary in one of Mexico’s most fascinating regions is a worthwhile alternative to the mainstream. Snorkel Caribbean reefs and laze on beautiful white-sand beaches. Enter the world of the ancient Maya at Chichén Itzá and the incredible jungle ruins of Palenque. Your experienced Chief Experience Officer (CEO) will reveal the region’s hidden gems, taking the hassle out of travel so you can focus on ancient ruins and vibrant sites, or revel in a tranquil sunset from Playa del Carmen's beaches.
Hawaii
G Adventures Highlights of Hawaii- Maui & Big Island- July- September 2020 Travel Ready to take a step beyond the typical relaxing vacation? Well, Hawaii’s here for you. Enjoy the best of the islands without the hectic resort crowds. On Maui, spend time discovering this island paradise before shaking those hips at a luau. The last few days take you to Big Island (also known as Hawai’i) to heat up your vacation (literally!) with a visit to Volcanoes National Park. With chill-out time on the beach balanced with stunning national park visits, this tour ticks off all the boxes.
Uncruise Hawaiian Seascapes- July- December 2020 Travel Cruising between four islands—Molokai, Lana‘i, Maui, and Hawai‘i, the Big Island—experience a new Aloha aboard a 36-guest boutique yacht. Whales and dolphins alongside the boat are just the beginning. Snorkeling in Hawaii means warm water, coral gardens, and neon-colored fish. And you'll remember snorkeling with sea turtles long after you’ve taken off your flippers. Water play, waterfalls, lava fields, and talking story with locals—you’ve never lived aloha like this.
