Sailing on the Windstar Breeze in the French Polynesian Islands
Life on Windstar Cruises in the South Pacific offers a unique blend of luxury, adventure, and cultural immersion. I was lucky enough to spend a week on the Star Breeze in French Polynesia.
Here's an overview of what you can expect on board the Star Breeze:
1. Intimate Ship Experience
Small Ship Atmosphere: Windstar Cruises operates smaller ships, creating a more intimate and personalized experience. The ships typically accommodate fewer passengers, allowing for more spacious and comfortable surroundings. the Windstar Breeze holds up to 312 guests.
Luxury Accommodations: Cabins and suites are elegantly designed, featuring modern amenities and ocean views. The walk in closet was a wonderful touch. Some suites offer private verandas. Our room had a French balcony allowing us to open the doors to let some fresh air in.
2. Destinations and Itineraries
Exotic Locations: Windstar’s South Pacific cruises explore idyllic destinations. These cruises often include stops at lesser-known, remote islands. My cruise stopped in Tahiti, Bora Bora (2 days), Moorea, Raiatea, and Taha’a.
Cultural Excursions: Shore excursions provide opportunities to experience local cultures, visit traditional villages, explore historical sites, and enjoy authentic Polynesian cuisine. In Moorea, I experienced a 4x4 island tour that took me through the valleys and mountains ending at Belvedere Look out for a 360 view of the island. In Raiatea, I had my first drift snorkeling experience. You make your way to the end of the motu and then let the current bring you back and will you enjoy the view below. In Taha’a, I drove the entire island and visited a vanilla plantation and pearl farm (this was my favorite day).
3. Onboard Activities and Entertainment
Water Sports Platform: The ships are equipped with a water sports platform that allows passengers to enjoy kayaking, paddleboarding, snorkeling, and swimming directly from the ship.
Enrichment Programs: Passengers can attend lectures and presentations about the history, culture, and marine life of the South Pacific, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of the region.
Evening Entertainment: While entertainment is more low-key compared to larger cruise lines, guests can enjoy live music, local performances, and themed nights. One of the evenings the ship dropped us off on a private island where they prepared an amazing dinner with a show from the locals.
4. Dining Experiences
Gourmet Cuisine: Dining on Windstar Cruises is a highlight, with a focus on fresh, locally-sourced ingredients. Passengers can enjoy a variety of dining options, from casual al fresco meals to fine dining in elegant restaurants.
Local Flavors: Menus often feature dishes inspired by the South Pacific, allowing guests to sample regional specialties.
5. Service and Amenities
Personalized Service: With a high crew-to-passenger ratio, Windstar offers exceptional service. The staff quickly learns passengers' preferences and provides attentive, personalized care.
Spa and Wellness: The ships feature spa and wellness centers where guests can relax with massages, facials, and other treatments. Fitness centers and yoga classes are also available.
6. Relaxed and Casual Atmosphere
No Formal Nights: The dress code on Windstar Cruises is relaxed and casual, with no formal nights, allowing passengers to feel comfortable throughout their journey.
Scenic Cruising: The smaller size of the ships allows them to navigate closer to shorelines, providing stunning views and access to beautiful, secluded bays and lagoons.
Overall, life on a Windstar Cruise in the South Pacific is characterized by luxurious comfort, personalized service, and the opportunity to explore one of the world's most beautiful and culturally rich regions. Guests can enjoy a balance of adventure and relaxation, making for a truly unforgettable cruising experience. I would visit these islands again in a heartbeat.
