Sailing the Mediterranean Aboard the Norwegian Viva
Last fall I had the pleasure of sailing through the Mediterranean aboard one of Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Norwegian Viva, along with a wonderful group of clients. From the moment we stepped onboard, it was clear that the Viva is more than just a ship—it’s a destination in itself.
We explored stunning ports by day and returned each evening to the comfort and energy of Viva’s thoughtfully designed spaces. Whether it was racing on the two-story Viva Speedway, enjoying cocktails with ocean views at the Soleil Bar, or relaxing in the panoramic Observation Lounge, there was something for everyone in our group to enjoy.
Balcony Bliss
I stated in a balcony stateroom, and I can confidently say it’s one of the best ways to experience this ship. Waking up each morning to a private view of the Mediterranean was a highlight in itself. The rooms are bright and modern, with smart storage, a comfortable bed, and a spacious bathroom. Each stateroom features a full glass door that opens to your own balcony—perfect for sipping coffee at sunrise or unwinding with a glass of wine as the sun sets over the sea.
Other thoughtful amenities included USB ports by the bedside, plenty of closet space, and an interactive TV system for checking daily schedules, booking dining, or just watching a movie. Everything felt fresh, functional, and designed with comfort in mind.
A Standout Dining Experience: Indulge Food Hall
One of the most talked-about spots on board was the Indulge Food Hall—and for good reason. This vibrant, open-concept dining venue brings together multiple global food stations, each offering small plates inspired by different cuisines. From Indian curries at Tamara, to Texas-style brisket at Q Smokehouse, and flavorful noodle bowls at Nudls, every meal was an adventure.
What made it even better? The ordering system! Each table has a digital tablet where you can browse the menus, place your order from multiple stalls at once, and have your selections delivered straight to your table. It’s casual, fast, and incredibly delicious—perfect for a relaxed lunch after a port excursion or a low-key dinner with lots of variety.
It was a huge hit with our group, and we found ourselves returning there often to sample new dishes (and repeat favorites!).
Ocean Views at the Observation Lounge
The Observation Lounge became one of our favorite hangouts on sea days. With floor-to-ceiling windows and panoramic views, it’s the ideal place to relax with a coffee, read a book, or simply watch the coastline drift by. The atmosphere is peaceful, the seating is plush and inviting, and it truly offers the best vantage point for soaking in the beauty of the Mediterranean without needing to be outside. It’s also a great place to gather as a group and catch up before dinner or excursions.
Sips and Sea Breezes at the Soleil Bar
For those who love fresh air and sunshine, the Soleil Bar and its surrounding Ocean Boulevard deck were perfect. Located on Deck 8 and wrapping around the ship, this outdoor area is dotted with loungers, glass oceanwalks, and cozy seating spaces. We enjoyed pre-dinner cocktails here while watching the sunset or grabbed a quiet moment with a morning mimosa. The vibe was always laid-back, and the views—unbeatable. It’s the kind of place that reminds you you’re truly at sea.
Traveling as a group made the experience even more special. It was a joy to share unforgettable moments together—sunsets at sea, late-night laughs, and the excitement of discovering a new port each day. The Viva made it all seamless and memorable.
If you’re thinking about cruising in Europe, the Norwegian Viva offers the perfect blend of style, innovation, and immersive exploration.
