Japan Cooking Class- Street Food
We tried everything we could get our hands on in Japan. I have to say there wasn’t much we didn’t like. Even the raw horse. Since we loved all the food we decided to track down a cooking class to bring those memories home to share with our friends and family.
We found the perfect class: street food with Eat Osaka. After our yakitori experience we knew we needed to find out how to make the dipping sauce. We learned how to make Yakatori meat and sauce, udon noodles and Okonomiyaki chopstick pancakes.
We prepared the noodles from scratch and once the dough was made we needed to store it in a warm place. Sure enough we wrapped it in plastic and kept it warm tucked into our pants. The finished product was perfect in our ramen.
If you have read our other blog on the Food of Japan you will remember we talked about Okonomiyaki. Since this was a street food class we learned how to roll the okonomiyaki on to chop sticks making them portable. A challenge for sure.
We got a special treat during the cooking class and used the world famous Osaka hand crafted knives. These knives were beyond amazing. So amazing that we went to the store and bought our own. Tim and I both picked out a knife and Tim even got a special one for his cousin that is a chef. While there they etched our last names in Japanese. This knives are the sharpest knives I have ever seen and get used dailing in my house.
